PAINT IT BLACK. Pine Bedroom Suite Makeover

My bedroom suite is dated, light and pine.  Ugh!  However, it's not a bad looking suite.

I love the design, the rope details and the bun feet.  I'm not a fan of the light pine wood.  I decided to paint the suite black.  That's right....black.  I painted my master bath cabinets black using Rustoleum Satin Black oil based paint and loved the outcome.

I began with the dresser (mule chest) because it will definitely be the most difficult piece, having eight drawers and a mirror.  I lightly sanded just enough to take off the shine.  Then I primed using Zinsser 123 Bullseye Primer.  This is the BEST primer out there, in my opinion.  After an hour, I painted the first coat of the black.  I let it dry 24 hours and painted the second coat on.  One last step before returning the furniture to the bedroom....Paste wax.  Yep, as Mr. Miyagi says, "Wax on. Wax off.  One coat, wait five minutes and buff off.  That's it.

I wanted to get new pulls but they are expensive.  So I did a little internet research and found there is a product by ArtDeco called Metallic Finish Wax.  I bought it in "Silver Sparkle".  It is fabulous.  You just apply it with your finger and immediately buff off with a soft cloth.  Here are photos of the before and after.

I've only finished the dresser (mule chest) but here is the 'after' shot.  I LOVE it and can't wait to finish all the other pieces.
